My motivation for my project “Nucleus”

My motivation to work on this topic is personal as well as public. On the personal side, I find myself an immediate witness and participant of the threatening reality unfolding in my country. From the beginning of the invasion, I chose to stay in Ukraine — the decision that I believe eventually contributed to my mental strength and resilience. […] believe this possibility to focus on a creative endeavour trying to make sense of the current reality will be therapeutic and calming.
On the other hand, I would like to make the results of my research public — to complete and share the film that could probably answer some of the pertinent questions, bring up new issues and provoke a discussion about the situation we currently find ourselves in. Some people say that we need a certain distance from the hot phase of war to start making sense of what has happened and why. I partly
agree, and in the case of my project, the necessary distance is ensured by turning to archives rather than focusing on new visual materials. I will look for clues in history while inevitably bearing in mind here and now. And I hope that some other people can relate to my findings and continue the conversation.
