My motivation for my project “Black Sea Matters”

I want to take part in the research work on this project, because it is a great opportunity for me to devote time to my own interest and to move away from the somewhat craftsman work in Ukrainian documentary cinema as an editor, assistant editor, video engineer and post-production coordinator, which takes a significant part of my time. It seems important to me to realize my interest in working on a short film and to realize my interest in the history of the Black Sea region in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Today it is relevant because the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation takes an active part in shelling the Ukrainian territory, and the city of Sevastopol has turned into the capital of the threat to the entire Black Sea region.

I am interested in how the primary tasks and design of the Black Sea Fleet were adapted to the post-Soviet imperial ambitions of the Russian Federation and how the USSR military machine worked. A certain archeology of this war machine seems to me no less important than the documentation of the consequences of its operation today.
