My motivation for my project “Silent Flood“

For me personally, the documentary Silent Flood is a story about a Ukrainian minority religious group that has firstly anthropologically big meaning to the country, which is also fascinated by its rural identity. This is a story about a closed community of people who do not accept electricity, mobile phones, gas, they believe in God but created their own way for that. They are amazingly organized as a community with strong support if you’re loyal to their beliefs. Silent Flood is a story about the family and an important question about integration into the small closed communities which are still present in Europe. Ukraine has had a diicult history throughout the USSR era and lost a lot of national identity during this time. Lots of people do not speak Ukrainian because it was wiped away by the soviet government as a culture itself. Now Ukraine is fighting back russian war and aggression, and we all need to support our country on different levels.
With this story, we not only show the center of lost and distant subcultures which will be an interesting discovery for both the festival public and the general viewers but also give unique information about Ukrainian historical subculture which is very important for social and cultural discovery of the country.
