My motivation for my project ”The Puppet Show”

Half a year before the war, we filmed the processes of creating a new performance in the workshops. The artistic director was our protagonist. With the beginning of the war, meanings changed. Many military and civil processes in Kharkiv depend on volunteers. Our heroes became volunteers from the first week of the war. And it is genuinely fascinating. They do not advertise their activities not only because of security issues but also because it is essential for them to help Kharkiv survive and not to show off their help. For me, it is necessary, once again, to show the dedication, honesty and care they show while saving lives – of the military, civilians and Kharkiv itself. Also, I consider the space and ecosystem formed in the theatre during the war to be unique and exciting. It never ceases to amaze me that the day the anti-war play was supposed to be premiered became the day when a full-scale
war began. I have been working on this film for a year now, and it has become a part of me. I want to continue filming until the war’s end and follow the characters after the war. I want to make a self-contained film with the same dedication, honesty and care our characters have.
